Studio Notes is the most reflective part of the Journal. It is where I write about the birds, characters, and ideas that return to the work again and again, and about the quieter observations that sit behind what I make.
What this part of the Journal is for
Not every piece begins with a product idea. Sometimes it begins with a posture, a colour, a familiar bird in the garden, or a small problem in the making process that leads somewhere unexpected. Studio Notes is where those thoughts have room to breathe.
What you’ll find here
Future posts in this category will include reflections on particular birds and subjects, small glimpses of studio process, and thoughts on what gives a piece its presence. Some will be shaped by memory or observation, others by making, but all of them belong to the slower, more thoughtful side of the studio.
If Collections shows how the work gathers together, Studio Notes shows some of what sits behind it: the noticing, the returning, and the gradual process of understanding a subject more closely through making.
